How many of us have watched someone else rise to the top and thought “I just don’t have what it takes to do that myself”? Not only is it frustrating to sit back and watch other people rise, it is more importantly stopping you from achieving many of your goals and dreams.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that people are not just born with what it takes to become a leader. All leaders have become that way as a result of training and acquiring information in their own lifetime. Sometimes, it might seem like leaders are made of different DNA to everyone else! However, even if they have been that way since they were young, they simply were privileged enough to learn the information sooner in their life than everyone else. it really is true isnt it Christopher! If people are willing to put in that little bit of extra effort the results that can be achieved can surpass even your own highest expectations!
I realised years ago that there are two groups of people, those waiting to be led and those leading. I decided it was more satisfying to be proactive, join the smaller group and provide leadership where appropriate. Taking responsibility for my life was the first major step. The skills I’ve found can be learnt, it’s the inner stuff which needs developing which I’m sure will continue to the end of my days.
Your article is dead right. People are not born leaders it is something that has been developed. In a case where it happens at a young age it means that have been given the support and tools necessary in order to have the confidence in themselves and to rise up ahead of the rest. Throughout life I have tried to be one of those people that doesn’t stay with the herd but instead be the one leading them, it’s not always easy but by partaking in leadership development programs and developing my own personal strategy it has made it so much easier. I would never ever choose a different path for myself, leading a group or being the manager of a business is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have.
Personal leadership is taking charge of one’s life, something llike becoming CEO of one’s own life. It needs courage to control impulses and dtermination for self-disipline.
